A qualified and registered Chartered Accountant by profession, Pieter holds extensive qualifications that include a post-graduate degree with honours in accounting science from the University of South Africa. He is a highly experienced and entrepreneurial leader with over 14 years of financial, senior management and executive experience. His journey is marked by successful tenures in multiple management and leadership positions with various leading companies globally, where he has leveraged his experience in capital markets and funding, M&A, corporate restructuring, complex operational and financial management, and strategic planning. He holds memberships to a range of credible, affiliated professional bodies, most notably the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), making him a driving force in the profession.
He has been intimately involved in the flexible-power market in the UK and MED’s founding since 2018, and he was also part of the core team that led to the successful IPO of MED in 2021, before taking over as CEO of MED during 2022.
Ivan Wentzel
OPERATIONS MANAGER
Ivan Wentzel holds a B.Eng (Electrical & Electronic) from the University of Johannesburg and has been registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) since 2010.
After graduating, Ivan worked as a Project Engineer at various well-known and respected global engineering project houses and consultancy firms. In 2015, he started his first private company focused on the field of industrial automation and project engineering. The company was acquired two years later, with Ivan staying on as Head of Department for Software Solutions.
In 2017, he co-founded an Internet of Things (IoT) business, his stake of which he sold in 2022, while in 2019, he co-founded a project engineering company based in Mauritius, which closed in 2020 due to the impacts of COVID-19.
Tanya Zwemstra CA(SA)
FINANCIAL MANAGER
Tanya Zwemstra is a qualified chartered accountant registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and the financial manager at Mast Energy Developments (MED). She worked at KPMG for 18 years, servicing private and public clients. Here, she gained experience in various industries, including mining, healthcare, transport, education and entertainment.
Tanya furthermore has experience in providing services to large donor-funded organisations, working on five different country/regional portfolios, including South Africa. She has been involved in performing capacity assessments at recipient organisations, evaluation budgets, reviewing progress reports, assisting with grant-making and closure reconciliations, and reviewing financial assurance plans for sub-recipients. Her experience also includes operation clean-audit assignments and policy and procedure reviews.
